LocalCortex ("the app", "we", "us") is a task and effort manager for macOS, developed by Shengchen Liu. This policy explains what information the app handles and what we do — and, just as importantly, what we never do — with it.
The short version: LocalCortex has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking. We do not collect your personal information. Your data stays on your devices and in your own iCloud account.
Information stored on your device
The app stores the following on your device only:
- Your efforts, tasks, templates, and agent settings in the app's local database.
- App preferences (appearance, view filters) and folder locations you link the app to.
- A local crash log (written only if the app crashes, to help diagnose the problem). This file never leaves your device unless you choose to send it to us.
Information synced through your iCloud account
If you enable sync, the app's structured data (efforts, tasks, templates, and agent settings) syncs between your devices through your own iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit private database. This data is stored in your iCloud and is protected by your Apple ID. We have no access to your iCloud data. iCloud is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Your files
LocalCortex links to folders that are already on your disk. The app never uploads your files anywhere. If you place your folders in a sync service (such as iCloud Drive, Dropbox, or Google Drive), those files are handled entirely by that service under its own terms and privacy policy. We never receive copies.
Purchases
Subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your name, payment details, or Apple ID. Your subscription status is stored on your device.
Push notifications
The app may register for silent push notifications with Apple's push service solely to keep your devices' data up to date. No promotional notifications are sent, and no third-party server is involved.
What we never do
- We do not require an account, and we never ask for your name, email, or contact details through the app.
- We do not collect analytics, usage statistics, or diagnostics from your device.
- We do not use advertising or advertising identifiers, and we do not track you across apps or websites.
- We do not sell, rent, or share personal information — we do not have any to share.
- We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The app is not directed at children.
Crash reports
Crash reports are generated by Apple's operating system. They are shared with Apple (and, in aggregate, with developers) only if you have enabled diagnostic sharing in your device settings. That data is governed by Apple's privacy policy, not this one.
Deleting your data
Delete efforts within the app, remove the app's data from iCloud via your device's iCloud settings, or uninstall the app — your data is then gone from the places it existed. Since we never collected anything, there is nothing left on our side to delete.
Changes to this policy
If the app's data practices ever change, we will update this page and note the change in the app's release notes. The effective date above will always show when this policy was last updated.
